The monthly meeting of ANC 5A was held on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. The meeting was held at UDC-CC Backus Campus. The meeting was called to order at 6:57 PM. The following Commissioners were present for the meeting:

Motion to accept agenda by Commissioner Wilds, seconded by Commissioner Lewis. Motion carried.

Community Concerns


Rip Preston - Developer reached out to Commissioner Jordan in reference to 40 units on St. Joseph’s property (12th and Varnum)


Tracy – 635 Emerson St. abandoned house get attention


Malik Williams, Ward 5 Liaison

Presented Mayor’s 6 month progress report and discussed plans to address, public, safety homelessness

Safer Stronger DC – combat violent crimes


Motion to accept quarterly ANC 5A, Q3 2015 report and expenditures by Commissioner Alston, seconded by Commissioner Lewis. Motion carried unanimously.


Public Service Commission rejected Pepco/Exelon merger. Massive outreach efforts (phonecalls, advertisements, etc., Mayor Bowser office and City Council attempting to put pressure on Public Service Commission to change position. Changes submitted to the Office of People’s Counsel, will be open for public comment again


Motion by Alston to prepare resolution reiterate 5A’s position and concerns, support decision of Public Service Commission seconded by Commissioner Lewis. Motion carries. 5 yes, Abstain – Wilds


DC Water - charging residents higher fees for water based on pipe size; ANC 5A will invite George Hawkins (check) to discuss with community


Single Member District Reports






SMD 5A08 – Comstock Development

Concerned citizens of North Michigan Park were granted status/standing

Alston submitted extension request to be able to address spending

Zoning chair asked developer to come up with alternatives to street closure, due by Monday the 5th ANC must respond by 12th


Block grant recommendations and ideas for surrounding areas, well documented, in writing to

submit so if project is approved. Community should submit to Commissioner Alston


Community Concerns/Announcements

Community members have asked that agendas, proposals and resolutions to be posted on ANC 5A’s website.


By comment consent ANC 5A will have a special meeting to address Comstock project on October 14th and Committee of the Whole meeting
