MINUTESOF MEETING
March 26, 2014

The monthly meeting of ANC 5A was held on March 26, 2014. The meeting was held at the UDC CC Backus Site room 125. The meeting started at 6:50 PM . The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Edwards. A quorum was established by roll call. The following Commissioners were present at roll call:

There were six (6) Commissioners present. A quorum was established. T he Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the Agenda.

TREASURER'S UPDATE

A verbal update was given with regards to the status of the ANC 5A financial account. Beginning balance was $42,161.87 with an ending balance of $40,681.24

PUBLIC SAFTEY UPDATE

Thomas Cole was selected as the Ward 5 Block 5 representative recently. Officer Lucas then presented on the following topics:

          Fatality occurred on Eastern Ave & Sargent Rd. The chase started in PG County but crash happened on the DC side of the border.

          Park police has stepped up patrol

          Commissioner Jordan inquired about an illegal welding site located on the 4400 block of 7th st NE.

ZONING UPDATE

DC Office of Planning representative, Joel Lawson, spoke before the body. M r. Lawson passed out several handouts detailing changes with regards to ANC 5A. He advised the body that this process began in 2007 and wanted to stress that every meeting was noticed properly and sent to each ANC. Current plan does not include any recommendations from the Industrial Land Transformation Taskforce.

National Park Service presented to the body and Commissioner Alston provided background information on NPS/Fort Totten issues. Under a proposed plan they can fence off an area, create a simple path. Currently no funding exists to implement any plan.

COMMUNITY CONCERNS

              Ronan Gulston, Deputy Chief of Staff for CM McDuffie, informed the body that Budget Hearings have begun to take place and concerned citizens could testify or submit written testimony. Turkey Thicket playground will be opening officially and that there will be an ethic markup within the Government Operations Committee.

              Chris (Zoning), Presented alternate opinion with regards to the zoning commission and meeting schedule. Advised the commission to push back and ask for an extension.
