MINUTES OF MEETING
June 25, 2014

The monthly meeting of ANC 5A was held on June 25, 2014. The meeting was held at the UDC CC Backus Site room 125. The meeting started at 6:50 PM. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Edwards. A quorum was established by roll call. The following Commissioners were present at roll call :

There were six (6) Commissioners present. A quorum was established. The Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the Agenda with changes, and May meeting minutes.

DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR)

John Stokes, DPR Representative, spoke to the commission and community about renaming the gymnasium at North Michigan Park Recreation. Mr. Stokes informed the community that Mr. Mills lived in close proximity to North Michigan Park Recreation Center and was a long time employee of the Department of Public Works. DPR stated they would like to meet with the community and ANC to plan more carefully in the future. Commissioner Jordan made a motion to compromise by allowing the North Michigan Park Community decide which room would be named for M r. Mills (not including the gymnasium) and to submit names for consideration for other rooms within the recreation center, including the gymnasium. Motion Fails by voice vote. Asa result, no rooms will be named.

PUBLIC SAFTEY UPDATE

Commander Chisley-Missouri presented to the Commission on behalf of the 4th District of the Metropolitan Police Department.

         There have been an increase in thefts within PSA 405, including thefts f rom auto (primarily at gas stations)

         Recent shooting incident occurred in the North Michigan Park community.

         Food & Friends f aci I ity noted excessive speeding on Riggs Rd to South Dakota Ave. Major accidents have occurred. MPD says, mechanical failure has caused many of the issues.

COUNCILMEMBER MCDUFFIE UPDATE

Ronan Gulstone, Deputy Chief of Staff, briefed the Commission and residents in attendance on the Budget Request Act and Budget Support Act for 2015. Pledged the counci I members support in preventing the relocation of the Lamond-Riggs Library. Mr. Gulstone also, briefly explained changes to Counci I member Bonds' Senior tax bill.

GOTLIEB SIMON

Executive Director of the Office of ANC provided thanks and greetings, also encouraged individuals to consider running for ANC in the upcoming election.

COMMUNITY REPORT

         Commissioner Alston, Cafritz Project is underway and 4th street is currently blocked. Residents

concerned with the blockage of access. There will be an update meeting next Tuesday.

o Motion to Support the project where is stands & moving forward. Approved

   Suggested dates for Lamond-Riggstaskforce meetings and September 29t" or 30th. The 29th was selected.

         Commissioner Jordan introduced "Resolution to Ensure Quality Neighborhood Schools" on behalf of education activist Stephanie Maltz. Approved Unanimously
