MINUTES OF MEETING

January 22, 2014

The monthly meeting of ANC 5A was held on January 22, 2014. The meeting was held at the UDC CC Backus Site room 125. The meeting started at 6:53 PM. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Edwards. A quorum was established by roll call. The following Commissioners were present:

There were seven (7) Commissioners present. A quorum was established. The Commissioner voted unanimously to adopt the Agenda.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

ANC 5A elected to keep all officers in their current positions with the exception of the Parliamentarian position. Commissioner Lewis was nominated for the position of Parliamentarian. All offices were decided by acclamation and Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan R. McDuffie gave the oath of office.

COMMUNITY SERVICE RECOGNITION

ANC 5A presented recognition awards to constituents with ANC 5A boundaries for going above and beyond and offering valuable services to the Advisory Neighborhood Commission. Each participant received their awards and were recognized by Councilmember McDuffie and Bonds on behalf of ANC 5A.

FINANCIAL UPDATE

o       ANC Treasurer Frank Wilds announced that the ANC would be responsible for an annual $25 security fee which was approved by the commission unanimously.

o       A presentation of the budget was presented and approved unanimously by the commission o The commission debated and decided to eliminate the old 5A (pre-redistricting) grant procedure and develop new procedures

PUBLIC SAFETY UPDATE

o       Sgt. Schautt PSA 405 presented to the community and commission that there has been a slight uptick in crime o Rise in theft from auto, recommended avoiding leaving GPS, visible change and other electronics within your vehicle.

o       There have been lots of reassignments within the 4th district

ANC BUSINESS

Presentations

Marriott Development

o       2 stage project located and Michigan Ave & Irving St NE

o       Hotel, Conference Center & Retail o Residential and/or Commercial usage o The hotel would be a Springhill Suites

o       Anticipated construction start would be end of current year o Project hotel opening would be 2016

McMillan Development o Motion was made to support the McMillan project based on ANC 5E recommendations, and was passed unanimously

WMATA Fort Totten Development

o       Currently no plan yet o METRO does have a timetable to approve development and may need a PUD for west parcel.

Resolutions

The commission voted unanimously to support the budget priority of a Lamond-Riggs library modernization project in FY15 not contingent upon Cafritz development
